Notes:  The similarity of the composition and content of this work to that of ID 433, suggest that Waite's other work in our database might also be early twentieth century. But the mood and style is cheerfully Victorian. Waite exhibited at the Royal Academy between 1878 and 1919.

Period/Style:  nineteenth century
URL:  http://www.burlington.co.uk/gallery/paintings/details?contentId=1396
Citation:
Index Words:  hayfield, haycart, wagon
Place:  England
Notes:  A triumph of convention over topography, Parker's painting is supposed to depict the Thames west of London, but resembles ID 436 very closely: in the width of the river; in the foreground vegetation; in the large trees against the sky; and in the scale and location of the hayfield and the wagon. Minor differences include the trees and cattle on the left bank of the river, and the absence of scythers in the field and poplars beyond it.
