Notes:  This exquisite painting belongs to a friend who was kind enough to loan it to me for reproduction here. The word 'Munchen' under Thomassin's signature led me to move the probable place from Austria to Germany (probably Bavaria, someone with a keener knowledge of costumes of the region may confirm this).

Index Words:  dutch-barn, silage, square-hay-bales, abstract
Place:  England
Notes:  The ground is wiped clear of features, it is reduced to a supporting surface that pans beyond the canvas. We do not see the fruits of labour on this vast land, or any trace that people still exist in these places. Edward Hopper-like in their absence of detail, they speak of isolation. The lack of narrative in these panoramic paintings, their still and timeless quality, result in images that are both romantic and apocalyptic.' [Damian Llambias, Curator]
