Notes:  This decorative block print shows a fenced heap of yellow hay next to a barn, from the upper window of which more hay spills. Rice moved from Philadelphia to California. After seeing Japanese woodbock prints at the Pan Pacific Exposition in 1915, he specialized in woodbluck and lino prints, while teaching in San Francisco Bay Area public schools.
