Artist:  Baker, William Bliss
Artist Birth Date:  1859
Artist Death Date:  1886
Artist Country: American
Title of Work:  Hiding in the haycocks
Date of Work:
Medium:  oil
Period/Style:  nineteenth century
URL:  http://www.hayinart.com/images/1611.jpg
Citation:  Memphis Brooks Museum of Art
Index Words:  haycocks, children, play
Place:  United States
Notes:  In a delightful scene, reminiscent of the work of Winslow Homer but more light-hearted, two children hide from a third in a seriously damaged haycock which will no longer be able to deflect the weather. The texture of the hay and the other haycock shapes are nicely realized as is the light on the trees from the sultry sky. Permission to add a thumbnai has been requested from the Memphis museum that owns the painting.
